Sacha Judd

Welcome.

I’m a lifelong fan and passionate advocate for the creative, transformative power of fandom. Drawing on my experience as a former corporate finance partner at a major national law firm and as CEO of a family office investing in technology companies, I understand firsthand how the tech sector has evolved over the past three decades.

During that same time, I’ve immersed myself in building and celebrating thriving fan communities, championing pop culture, film, television, music, and fandom itself. I regularly write, give interviews, and speak at conferences and in-house events on diversity and inclusion, internet communities, and how we can all play a part in fostering a healthier, more inclusive digital future.

What is fandom?

Fans are often reduced to cliched tropes: hysterical, obsessed, focussed on irrelevant things, but the reality is that anyone who loves something – whether that’s a TV show, a football team, or a musical artist– is a fan. Fans have been trailblazers in adapting to new technologies and platforms, and the challenges and complexities that come with online culture – teaching each other technical skills, wrestling with issues of censorship and preservation, establishing norms and standards for community behaviour, adapting to changing political environments, and wielding increasing power. Fans are modern-day pioneers of the digital age.

I’ve learned much from Sacha on culture in general and fan culture specifically. I find her insights surprising for their simple truth. Her empathy with the very ground floor, as a fan, informs her 10,000 foot view, from which she locates connections between disparate and distant fandoms. These connections can tell us about how we exult and celebrate together, and what we get out of it, and how far we can go.
